Drug Name

Geodon (Ziprasidone)

Common use

Geodon is used to treat schizophrenia and the manic episodes of bipolar disorder. It possesses high affinity to dopamine D2-receptors and more significant affinity to serotonin 5-HT2A-receptors. Geodon is used to treat psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, and affective disorders. Due to its potentially serious side effects it is administered only if other medications have proved inadequate.

Dosage and direction

The recommended dose for adults is 40 mg two times a day and should be corrected for each particular condition. Geodon is available in dosage of 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg. Maximal dose is 160 mg a day. Take it orally with a meal. Dose correction is required in patients with with hepatic impairments.
